Membership Classes and Fellowship Sunday

posted in: Announcements, Uncategorized | 0

Fellowship Sunday is on 6th October, when we celebrate the global Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, speaking up for inclusion and human rights and blessing same-sex relatinships and gender variation since 1968!

It’s also a day when we welcome new members into MCC North London. Membership classes on 1st and 8th September at 4pm, are a chance to find out more about MCC, our values, organisation, beliefs and work. Coming to classes doesn’t commit you to becoming a member, but if you want to join the membership roll and make a public commitment that this is the church to which you wish to belong, then you do need to come to both classes, so that you are fully informed about your decision – we’re all about free and informed consent here at MCCNL, in all things!

Clobber Passages Teaching Sessions

Most of us have experienced some parts of the Bible being used to argue that LGBT people are not enfolded in the love and grace of God as we are. At MCC we know that this is not true, and we have the biblical understanding to back that up. If you have ever been ‘clobbered’ with these passages of the Bible and been unsure what they really mean for us, or wished you knew how to answer these accusations, our Clobber Passages learning sessions in July are for you!

We will look at these bits of Scripture, and see how the true message of God’s all-inclusive love is truly there, and that honest biblical study lies behind our assurance.

Four sessions, held on each Sunday in July at 4:30 at the church.

If you can’t make it to the church building, don’t despair – we will cover the same material online a little later in the summer.

We are now livestreaming from the church building

We may not be open for worship as usual yet, but we’ve made the first steps. Our team of volunteers came in and scrubbed away over a year’s accumulation of grime and dust, the building finally has working WiFi, and now the worship team are going in to try and set up for ‘hybrid worship’ – that means some people will be in the building and some will be taking part in Zoom.

So many have joined us during lockdown, who may never, or seldom, be able to join us in Camden, but we intend to stay online even when many of us have returned to the building, streaming from the church, and holding space for conversation and prayer in Zoom, and even allowing for readers, preachers etc to contribute via Zoom, projected onto the screen for those in the room. Inclusivity and accesibility are essential.

As we open up for more people to attend in person, we will post up here.

We’re also grateful for the very much needed skills of anyone who knows how to hold a camera, press the buttons on the powerpoint, turn the microphones up and down, and similar important tasks! Let one of the leadership know if you’re willing to volunteer.

AGM and New Board

redchairsThank you to everyone who attended the AGM. AGMs may not be the most thrilling engagements in our social calendar, but they are vital to keeping our church running!

It is wonderful to see how our community and work have grown and developed over this year, and to look forward to new opportunities to share God’s love in the months to come.

Well done and welcome to our new Board Members: Alex, Lulu, Gisela and Flora, and to PJ, Reubs and Richard who have been brave enough to return for another term!

Please hold all our new Board in your prayers over the coming weeks.
